Racing is one of the many adventures available to Sharks—but it's never the reason you have to join.
Some of our riders race every weekend. Some race once. Some never race at all. Every one of them is a Shark.
What makes NICA special is that racing is simply another opportunity to challenge yourself, learn something new, and have fun alongside your teammates.
The Central New York Composite Sharks compete in the New York Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA NY), a youth mountain bike league focused on building strong minds, bodies, character, and community through cycling.
NICA races take place on age-appropriate courses designed specifically for youth riders. Throughout the season, riders develop skills, confidence, fitness, and race experience while being supported by coaches, teammates, and families every step of the way.
Race weekends are some of our favorite moments of the season. They're filled with riding, cheering, team dinners, cowbells, sparkles, high-fives, obstacle courses, friendships, and plenty of memories that last long after the finish line.

When you race with the Sharks, you're never racing alone.
Our coaches and families help riders prepare with:
🦈 Skills practice and race preparation
🦈 Guided warm-ups and course previews
🦈 Feed zone support and race-day coaching
🦈 Team cheering sections
🦈 Post-race celebrations and reflection
🦈 Encouragement through every challenge and success
Whether you're lining up for your very first race or chasing a personal goal, you'll have an entire team behind you.

At the Sharks, success isn't defined by podiums.
We celebrate:
💙 Showing up
💙 Trying hard things
💙 Supporting teammates
💙 Getting back up after setbacks
💙 Learning from challenges
💙 Having fun
The rider who overcomes their nerves to start their first race is just as important as the rider standing on the podium.

If racing sounds exciting, we'll help you every step of the way.
If racing doesn't sound exciting, that's okay too.
Many Sharks simply love riding trails, exploring the outdoors, learning new skills, and spending time with friends.
There is no "right way" to be a Shark.
Just show up, ride bikes, support your teammates, and have fun.
We'll take care of the rest. 🦈💙
