Most of the items in this list are covered under a tune-up at the shop. Work with the shop of your choice to see what they include with their service.
• Clean Bike
• Replace all cables
• Shifter
• Brake if not hydraulic
• Dropper post if equipped and not hydraulic
• Bleed brakes if hydraulic
• Clean drivetrain
• Casette
• Derailleur
• Chainring
• Replace Brake Pads
• Check wheels - no hop in side to side or vertical direction
• Evaluate cassette and chain
• Evaluate grips, check for wear
• If using clipless pedals, evaluate clipless pedal cleats
• They should not be shiny or sharp
• Check tires for wear
• If using tubeless tires, Replace tire sealant
• Clean out old sealant if its been a while
• If using tubeless tires check valve stem for leaking
• Check that all bolts are snug; verify no bearings are making noise or feel notch
• Ensure you have a spare set of brake pads and a spare derailleur hanger
• Wipe down chain, remove any dirt/water from it
• Re-lube the chain if its dry or it was noisy during the ride
• Identity any shifting issues or new noises
• Clean off any dirt and water if the conditions were muddy/wet
• Ensure brake pads and derailleur hanger are in race bag
• Ensure flat kit is in race bag
• Inflator/pump
• Tube
• Tire levers
• Identify any shifting issues or brake issues early in the week, if possible
The morning of the race is not the time to fix these if they have been a problem for a while
On race day have your bike checked prior to or after pre-ride.
Clean drivetrain and re-lube chain after pre-ride
Clean bike after pre-ride if doing pre-ride on Sat.
• Check cables for wear, ensure they are not damaged
• Check brake pads for wear
• Clean Drive Train
• Check shifting, is it smooth?
• Check cassette and chain for wear, teeth should be square not sharp
• Tighten all bolts
• Re-lube chain
• Check wheels, no hop in side to side or vertical direction• Evaluate tires
• If using clipless pedals, evaluate clipless pedal cleats

Shifting Issues
• Check that drivetrain is clean and lubricated
• Check derailleur pulleys and chainring for gunk
• Ensure the shifter is not hard to press; it shouldn’t hurt to shift
• Ensure cables are not damaged
• Check that drivetrain is clean and lubricated

• Check seat post and handlebar for proper alignment
• Check cables, levers, shifters for any damage
